Alternatives Unlimited (AU) has served the state of Texas with Supplemental Education Services since 2005. After two successful years of serving students statewide, AU will continue our efforts at improving the basic skills of Texas students; offering a better opportunity to achieve passing scores and greater academic performance on state assessments and classroom activities alike. |

| Evidence of Effectiveness: |
| AU has served a number of districts with great success including Austin ISD, Dallas ISD, and Houston ISD. In 2005-06, Alternatives Unlimited had 43 students attend tutorial services in the Houston Independent School District. The progress of these students was measured by their performance on the TAKS Test according to individual grade levels. Of the ten 8th grade students who participated, eight students (80%) passed the ELA TAKS test. Moreover, eight students (80%) passed the Math TAKS for 8th grade. Although these were not the same eight in each subject, an overall improvement of 37% in Mathematics was demonstrated by enrolled students from 04/05 to the 05/06 academic year. |
| The 6th grade cohort boasted 25 students. Within that number, 19 students (76%) passed the Math TAKS exam, as well as 15 students (60%) passing the ELA TAKS exam. Five students were in LEP program, and all five (100%) passed both exams. In addition, the subgroups demonstrated great performances as well. In the African-American subgroup, 100% of students passed both parts of TAKS exam. The Latino subgroup earned a 68% passage rate for both tests. Further, 100% of students who received services demonstrated improvement from the prior academic year. |
